Demo Quest (2024)
DemoQuest’2024
DemoQuest’2024, a three-day event organised by Kompass Junior College was held at the Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI) in Hyderabad. This program was created to give students from Grades 9 to 12 a detailed understanding of how laws are made and how government institutions work. It included interactive workshops, informative lectures, and a simulated parliamentary session.
The event commenced with an enlightening session on the principles of democracy and the fundamentals of parliamentary procedures. The Chief Guest, Mr. Suresh Chanda, emphasized the power of citizens in a democracy to choose their representatives and the importance of active participation in the democratic process. This was followed by a discussion on representative democracy, exploring the significance of liberty and the role of the legislature in addressing public needs.
The day included several focused seminars, each concluded with a “A session, providing students with an opportunity to engage directly with the content. The students were divided into small groups for a structured discussion on various contemporary issues facing the youth today. A group activity was held to analyse affidavits from the states of Maharashtra and Jharkhand regarding fresh nominations for political representation. Groups were tasked with preparing reports to select the most qualified candidates to represent these states. The day concluded with a formal group interview process, from which 50 candidates were selected to be present for the second day of the event.
On the second day, the 50 students were divided into two cohorts: Cohort A and Cohort B. This session focused on preparing the students for real-world parliamentary activities, with an emphasis on critical thinking and media literacy. The sessions aimed to educate students about media misinformation and the influence of propaganda, encouraging them to be discerning consumers of information. The discussion covered the important distinction between legislation and policy and highlighted the role of media in shaping public opinion
and policy decisions. Students were encouraged to use credible sources and research materials in their decision-making processes.
The day culminated with a session on social entrepreneurship, where participants were introduced to the potential for social impact through policy-making and discussed how young individuals can contribute to positive change in society.
On the final day, a detailed overview of a parliamentary session was given, helping students understand the processes that govern legislative bodies. This foundational knowledge prepared students for the mock parliament session, where they would actively engage in parliamentary debates.
The topic of the mock parliament was a bill proposing women’s reservation in Parliament, a timely and relevant subject for discussion. Students were divided into two separate rooms for the debate, each cohort assuming different roles in the parliamentary proceedings. This hands-on experience aimed to give students a practical understanding of the dynamics of law-making, bill amendments, and the overall legislative process.
Following the mock session, students were introduced to the field of journalism as an important element in policy-making, with a focus on the importance of investigative reporting and the critical need for fact-based analysis in uncovering the truth.
DemoQuest’2024 provided students with a priceless experience, engaging them with the core principles of democracy, law-making, and governance.
